How to become more organised using my three-step approach

Having ADHD is incredible when it comes to that all-important business acumen. As a time served entrepreneur I’ve always seemed to have the Midas touch when it comes to new ventures. It wasn’t until I was able to accept my diagnosis and learn how to make the most out of my new superpower that I achieved real happiness however.

The ability to have more great ideas before breakfast than most people have all week and the guts to take risks are great skills that any entrepreneur would be happy to have, but to really harness the power of your ADHD and all of the awesomeness that comes along with it, it’s important to master the art of organisation so your energy is directed into the right projects, at the right time.

If like me, you sometimes struggle to organise your time to get the important stuff done, my three-step approach can help.

Step 1: Know your weaknesses

Knowing where we fall down when it comes to getting a new venture or project off the ground is the first step to overcoming organisational challenges.

No person can do everything themselves even if they do have the ADHD superpower, so identify your weaknesses and where possible, outsource them to someone else!

I absolutely suck at keeping records as it bores my hyper ADHD mind, so in the past, I’ve either paid someone else to do this admin stuff for me or swapped a few hours of a colleague’s time for mine where I can help them with something I’m actually good at!

Step 2: Use tech

Technology is amazing for the terminally disorganised, and you can bet that my mobile is chock full of labour-saving organisational apps to keep me on track each and every day.

From digital calendars that remind you not to miss deadlines or important meetings when your in hyperfocus mode to trackers that show you where you could stand to be a little more productive each day, why not give a few apps a try and see how much more organised you can become without spending any additional effort. These are my favourite productivity tools to keep me on task.

Step 3: Be accountable

It’s so easy to blame your ADHD, other people or even the weather for being disorganised, but the truth is that you are allowing yourself to stay disorganised by failing to do anything about it.

Not only are you making life far harder than it needs to be, but you’re holding yourself back from reaching your true potential. Now’s the time for some straight self-talking and some action to help you become the best version of yourself.
